Plans for the Irthing Centre Development on view

Brampton and Beyond Community Trust’s plans for the Irthing Centre Development are on view in Brampton Community Centre. For the last year, the Trust has been developing plans to provide 38 Extra Care Housing units on the vacant part of the Irthing Centre site as well as making various improvements to Community Centre facilities.

The Extra Care Housing is a form of sheltered housing comprising self-contained residential units mainly with two bedrooms and designed for people over 55 years old who have care needs or expect to have care needs in the future. This form of housing is increasingly being adopted throughout the country as a means of allowing people to remain in their homes and in their community when their care needs increase as they get older. There would also be rooms for communal use and a provider of care located on the site.

This will be a unique development in Cumbria; linking a housing scheme for older people with community facilities and providing a range of accessible opportunities for the housing residents through arts and crafts, exercise, and social and recreational activities.
