Music on the Marr 2013

Music on the Marr is back at Castle Carrock from Thursday 18th through to Sunday 21st July. Classed as “Cumbria’s friendliest family, folk, roots and world music festival”, 2013 sees the first ever live broadcast from Music on the Marr by BBC Radio Cumbria.

The first “once-off-never-to-be-repeated-just-this-year-only” Music on the Marr Festival was staged in 2010. With a village wedding taking place on the Marr (the village green) one Saturday in June of that year, a large marquee was hired for use. The hirers kindly agreed to it being available for use the following day by the village and local people. Music on the Marr music was created! Being so successful, the following year saw Music on the Marr 2011, this time stretched over two evenings rather than just the one.

4 miles south of Brampton, Castle Carrock is a hidden Cumbrian gem with a thriving primary school, a church, a shop and a village hall as well as a pub (the Duke of Cumberland). Just under 300 people live there. So how does a village of less than three hundred pull in musicians of international pedigree to play in a big tent on the village green? That’s what many of the hundreds of visitors to Music on the Marr 2012 were left wondering.

This year’s Music on the Marr is over four days starting Thursday 18th July. Visit www.musiconthemarr.com for more info and tickets.
